Future Plans: What’s Next for Me
Emerging as a Promising Author and Remarkable Poet are Plans for the Future
What’s next for me as an author and poet? Well, I hope to accomplish a lot of things for the remainder of this year and, hopefully, in the years to come. I have a lot of plans for the future, including publishing more books on poetry, capturing more stirring photographs of anything under the sun, and so much more. As I’ve said, my future plans are too long to list here, so I’ll just share with you a few of them.
Since the publishing of the third and last volume of my Picture Poem book series, I have been working on a new poetry book, which is a treatise on sonnets. I’ve been experimenting on this form of poetry and have so far identified 67 configurations. In this work, I plan to introduce the readers to the eight standard sonnet forms: English, Italian, Shakespearean, Petrarchan, Spenserian, American, Modern, and Blank Verse. I plan to write 170 poems for the 14 chapters of the book. I hope they will find pleasure in discovering the intricacies of sonnets as I have while working on this book.
I haven’t set the date for when my book of sonnets will be published, but once it is, I plan to do a number of local book signings and television interviews. I also plan on managing my YouTube channel more actively by posting weekly videos of me reading and describing my poetry. I will also try my hand in poetry contests to see where I stand as a poet in the midst of many. Also, later this year, I plan to join the poetry department of the University of Minnesota. Hopefully, these will help me cultivate my presence in the online and local poetry communities.
My Picture Poem series will be in the AJC Decatur Book Festival at the LitFire booth this September. I really hope I see you there! The WayFairer magazine will also be featuring the series in their latest issue, so allow me take this opportunity to encourage you to grab a copy of WayFairer once it’s available!
Recently, I have been fascinated with animated stills. As a result, I’ve been weaving lines of poetry regarding these stills in the back of my mind and I would like to write them into existence soon enough. I hope to write these poems in a way that will personify the subjects which are inanimate objects, purporting a hint of life in them. It’s definitely a new challenge for me and I hope to come out victorious.
Currently, I’ve been preoccupied with a photo shoot for a September publication. The shoot has certainly kept me from being glued to my desk all day and writing my new book. But of course, as a photographer, it’s pleasurable work on my part. The project is almost finished, and one fantastic thing I’ve gotten out of it is a fresh batch of poetry prompts from the photos I took.
Now that I’m writing about my future plans, I realize there’s only one end goal behind all of this, and it’s one that I will strive to accomplish: to emerge as a promising author and a remarkable poet. Moreover, as I’m an author, poet, and photographer, I have taken these skills and blended them into a new method of viewing poetry in a way that I don’t think has been done too often before. I’d like to introduce this method to poetry communities and see more people approach poetry this way. I hope you stick around for the journey I’ve set myself on and give me support.
