Poetry The Art of Imagery in Words

Poetry is the art of painting pictures with words. It is a craft done by artists who capture moments, emotions, and memories with rhythmical lines and verses. These lines and verses coax from their readers’ minds’ associated moments, emotions, and memories. While a poem can have a universal image understood by all its readers, its meaning will differ for every individual. It is one of the wonders of poetry; it can paint a singular picture viewed by many and, at the same time, create other images unique to one.

I started writing poetry in my first year of high school, and I haven’t stopped since then, although I write much more now that I am retired. There is something about writing poetry that satisfies my mind, heart, and soul like no other. For most poets, birthing life to their brainchild brings a wonderful sense of relief and pride. Sometimes, this is enough to fuel one’s creativity and drive, but human as we are, we crave to be heard, to be acknowledged, and to be praised for our efforts. Although we often insist that we do not care for the opinion of others, we are often overjoyed and humbled by the love and affirmation of our fellows. In short, we are independent, but we like to cheer for and be cheered by one another.

You might be wondering how this relates to the art of poetry. You see, poems are only words, and they will remain so unless someone reads them and lets them paint the pictures hidden in their rhymes and metaphors. They can only truly become masterpieces once they have been seen by the world and have touched the hearts of people. That is why, to be a successful poet, one has to be a published poet. Success can mean many different things, but as a poet, it is a journey that begins with letting the world see your work. That is why I personally have been driven to publish my works. It’s not for the money, for most poets never get rich, and are often unappreciated until after they have died. To leave a lasting legacy. And so, I started with the vision of a series. Three books that not only contain poetry, but describe it, and share its secrets.

That shall be my legacy!
