Guided poetry books are effective tools for starting poets

Poetry, just like any form of art, is induced by human emotion. From the incitement of emotion rises a need to express; thus, we have art. However, poetry is not all a burst of emotion. Like any other evolved art forms, it has accumulated principles, styles, and methods. These technicalities are required for an aspiring poet to further improve his or her craft.

Teaching Poets through the Picture Poems Collection

The Picture Poems collection is designed specifically to aid an aspiring poet in learning the craft. The books in the series are connected, a step-by-step learning tool that will help teachers and poets alike. In every book, the method, devices, and principles taught are cited beside the poem, creating an interactive space that allows readers to directly identify what is being taught.

The first book, Picture Poems 1, teaches basic rhyme, line counts, and meters. The poems, which are also accompanied by photographs, are created to exemplify the basics that are introduced. Picture Poems 2 still follows the same method of teaching. In this book, techniques like alliteration, assonance, consonance, onomatopoeia, and caesura are introduced. In the third book, Picture Poems 3, advanced techniques are presented. In this book, the readers are taught about colloquialism, elision, speaker technique, irony, and other techniques aspiring poets should know.

Renowned poets like William Shakespeare, Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson, and W. B. Yeats have their own writing styles. Their styles have become foundations of the poetry we have today. Learning the technicalities of poetry does not happen overnight. It is best learned gradually in a guided way, with application.
